I stay on schedule with all my bloodwork. At this stage, I will have to get my bloodwork done once a month for the rest of my life.

I really did not know this until the day of my surgery.  Now that I remember, a couple of people, that was at the same dialysis center as me, received a kidney transplant, but then came back to dialysis. Now, I think I know why!

This portion is very important.  It is also important to do your daily vitals at least 2 times a day.  Some days, I do my vitals 3 times a day. My alarm stays set as a reminder to do just that.  Plus, know your body and the side effects of all your medications.  Your medication side effects sometimes mimic the same symptoms listed on this page.  But, do not hesitate, contact your transplant coordi

I actually never heard of these viruses. Honestly, it scared me at first.  But, I just made sure I was prepared by becoming more of a germaphobe.  I carry cleaning supplies (lysol spray, lysol wipes, alcohol spray, extra masks, hand sanitizer, and gloves) with me everywhere I go.  I make sure my mini bookbag and/or my purse can accommodate my supplies.  

How to prevent infections after a transplant; fight germs by washing hands

I wash and sanitize my hands often, especially after handling money and touching any door knobs.  However, doing this practice will leave your hands extremely dry and cracked.  To combat this, I carry a small container of vaseline with shea butter and dove moisturizer.

This may seem minuscule, but avoiding these events may help keep you out of the hospital.   Side note- I also started carrying hand sanitizing wipes.  The wipes are less harsh on the hands and fingertips.
